Paint Brighton Red & White: Students Complete Pioneering Work Experience At Local Football Club

For young people still in education looking to achieve the right exam results, or those who have just entered the world of work hoping to land that dream role, gaining experience in their chosen field can be very difficult.

Employees need an experienced workforce, and so young people often cannot find the opportunities to gain the practical experience that they need on their CV's to compete for those roles.

One football club in Brighton has been working with its local community and has come up with a pioneering way of creating some amazing work experiences for students, as well as working in partnership with local business.

Whitehawk Football Club has had its clubhouse completely re-decorated, painted by the Painting & Decorating students of Greater Brighton Metropolitan College, the club's sponsors.

The process has formed part of the students curriculum studies, and for some it's the first time that they have worked to a brief, and a deadline for an actual client.

Kevin Miller, Head of Commercial at Whitehawk FC explains:

"The MET are our shirt sponsors, and one of the key reasons we wanted them on board was to identify work opportunities for the student, offering practical experiences that they will need in the competitive world of work.

"We offered the painting & decorating department of the college the opportunity to re-paint our clubhouse, and thanks to our friends at Brewers Decorator Centres who provided the paint, the students have been getting out of the classroom, visiting the club and doing a fantastic job."

He added:

"To compliment this, we also had the whole process recorded by students from the college media/digital media department; and even our matchday poster for Saturday's game has been designed by a MET College Graphic Design student"

"We believe that it is the role of a community football club to be a conduit for the region that it serves, and
it"s superb that we are able to create some real and tangible opportunities for the city"s young people to
give them a head start.

"It is so difficult for students across all industries these days, and I hope that we are
able to offer more experiences to put on their CV's right across the club throughout the next few seasons."

This Tuesday's (18 Dec) local derby with Worthing kicks off at 7:45pm, and the unveiling will take place between 6:30-7pm.
