Local Seascape Artist Laura Callaghan Set to Bring Her First Solo Exhibition Of Mixed-Media Seascape Paintings To Sussex Venue

Laura Callaghan, based in Saltdean, near Brighton, holds her first solo exhibition of mixed-media seascape paintings at The Grange, Rottingdean, Brighton, in February.

This extensive collection of unique textural mixed media seascapes are all evocative of the stunning Sussex coastline.

Each one a reflection of the local artist's deep passion for and connection with the ocean. See how Laura captures the light, the serenity, the sheer power and poetry of where land meets sea.

Laura paints in a very organic way, using a selection of collaged ephemera as the basis, she builds up mixed media with found objects and different varieties of paint.

The resulting paintings have hidden depths and meaning with delicate translucent layers.

The inspiration she takes from the natural world is reflected in her paintings.

Along with her passion for recycling and reviving found objects, particularly those that would otherwise be overlooked.

There is a sense of escapism in each of Laura's artworks, each one a unique journey and beautiful visualisation of the world around us.

New works include some larger show-stopper paintings that have been inspired by local seascapes and vistas, as well as smaller collections of work on canvas, paper and plastic debris washed up on local beaches.

These paintings have been created over the last 12 months and capture the vibrancy and ever-changing nature of our natural coastal environment, as well as to highlight the beauty and the threats to our local beaches from climate change and human impact.

Laura's work has been showcased in exhibitions and galleries across the UK and she has had artwork endorsed by Sir David Attenborough.

Laura's work sells internationally to art lovers and collectors in the UK and to both public and private collections all over the world.

The artist, Laura Callaghan, will be at the exhibition for most of the opening days and hours.

Exhibition details: Dates: 14th February - 25th February 2024 at The Grange Art Gallery, The Green, Rottingdean, Brighton - Times: Wednesday-Saturday 10am-4pm, Sunday 1pm-4pm. For more info CLICK HERE.
