Artists Open Houses Spring Festival Dates Announced & First Houses Revealed

Artist's Open Houses returns this May, with venues across Brighton & Hove opening their doors and welcoming visitors to explore a variety of arts and crafts.

Organisers will be welcoming even more artists and venues to exhibit this Spring, with over 150 venues already registered to take part.

The festival is free to attend and will take place over four weekends: May 4, 5 & 6, 11 & 12, 18 & 19 and 25, 26 & 27.

Now in its 42nd year, Artist's Open Houses (AOH) is thrilled to share that artist Sarah Arnett will be illustrating the brochure cover in her unique, vibrant style as well as taking part in the festival with her popular venue Little Picture Palace

This is one of many venues returning to open their doors to the community, with celebrated painter Faye Bridgwater also opening her home and studio to visitors this Spring along with Kate Scott, who will collaborate with artists working in music and film.

There is a selection of art and craft to explore, highlights include celebrated artist Jessica Zoob's large scale layered paintings.

At Becky Blair & Friends, you'll find contemporary handmade chairs by Hope Spring, stone sculpture from Guy Stevens and stunning textiles by Deborah Manson.

Over at the elegant home Art at 21 on Montpelier Crescent, painter Nick Gardner is joined by painter Lucy Bristow, painter and poet Gary Goodman and sculptor Ingrid Boucher for a contemporary display of artwork.

Also for 2024, the biannual Dog Show returns for its fifth year. For this year they will have seven returning artists.

AOH is a unique opportunity to interact with local artists and makers, and to discover their work in a variety of venues from Hove and Portslade to Fiveways, Seven Dials to Rottingdean and out to Ditchling, Newhaven and the villages beyond.

"It is fantastic to share the launch of the Artist"s Open Houses May Festival, a much anticipated event in the calendars of all those interested in art and craft across Sussex.

"Now in our 42nd year, we're really grateful to the many artists and makers who continue to participate, sharing their homes and studios, enabling so many artists to exhibit their work each year.

"We are also delighted to welcome new faces to the AOH community, and can't wait to see their work this Spring." Judy Stevens - AOH Festival Director.

The strapline for Alastair Campbell and Rory Stewart's The Rest is Politics podcast is 'disagreeing agreeably' but, despite Campbell being a lifelong Labour supporter and Stewart a lifelong Conservative and previous runner for the leader of the Tory party, there is little they seem to disagree on; the only exceptions perhaps being the Iraq war and the Royal Family.
