Sussex-Based Dog Welfare Charity Saves Winnie From Puppy Farm & Helps Her Rise To TV Stardom

"It was love at first sight" for a Dogs Trust pup, who was rescued by the dog welfare charity from a puppy farm and has recently found herself at the centre of a national television ad campaign.

Winnie, a Havanese and Coton de Tulear cross, who was rehomed from Dogs Trust Shoreham by People's Postcode Lottery ambassador Judie McCourt, hit the small screens to feature in the lottery's Christmas campaign.

Judie and Winnie joined fellow ambassadors Jeff Brazier, Matt Johnson with his dog Alan Shearer and Danyl Johnson alongside his dog Darcy, to promote the massive £22 million up for grabs in the December draws.

Life hasn't always been glitz and glamour for two-year-old Winnie who was rescued early in her life by the Dogs Trust team.

Lottery ambassador Judie explained how Winnie entered her life:

"Last year I had the pleasure of visiting  Dogs Trust West London (Harefield) Rehoming Centre as part of my role at People's Postcode Lottery and after meeting the dogs it made me realise how much I was longing to get one of my own.

"Unfortunately, none were a match for me as they needed to be rehomed with other dogs so the team put me in touch with Dogs Trust in Shoreham who showed me pictures of Winnie and it was honestly love at first sight."

Judie said

"I couldn't wait to get Winnie home and she settled with me instantly.

"At the recent advert shoot, Winnie was fantastic all day and was extremely patient waiting for her moment in the spotlight.

"She's completely changed my life; she"s added so much colour and joy to every day and my house is now our home."

Players of the lottery have raised over £14 million for Dogs Trust, allowing the charity to continue their work of caring for and rehoming thousands of dogs in addition to its community projects.

Judie added:

"Dogs Trust made the whole process so easy for me and were with me every step of the way providing helpful advice and guidance and we even attended their Dog School puppy training classes.

"There's no need to buy a dog when so many need re-homing."
