Brighton-Based Wunderkind Sets Out To Motivate Others With His Award-Winning Street Dancing

Reuben started dancing when he was two years old and started attending classes when he was only four. Now thirteen, the Brighton-based wunderkind competes all over Europe in street dancing competitions and recently won the prestigious accolade of World Champion in Advance Solo in the Under 12s division, which he says was an "amazing experience."

Becoming an advanced street dancer by the age of thirteen is no mean feat. Reuben travels from his home in Brighton and Hove into London up to five times per week to train. 

This level of commitment doesn't phase him however, he has wanted to dance as long as he can remember:

"As soon as I saw the Thriller video when I was two years old, I knew it's what I wanted to do, and I've never looked back."

The inspiration that struck when witnessing the choreographed routines on the TV, has never left.

Now Reuben gets a kick from performing his skills to others whether at local community events or on the international stage, and he hopes to motivate other young people to take up his skill themselves.

"Dancing is when I feel happiest," continues Reuben. 

"Both when I dance solo, but also with my crew IMD Legion. My mentors in the crew have been so inspirational to me." 


Reuben's skills have now led him to be an online sensation, featuring as an ambassador for national soft drinks brand Juiceburst's #NoNonsenseSkills campaign. 

Drawing on his love to dance battle, the ad sees him challenge fellow young prodigy Alice Lean whose skill is freestyle skating.

Reuben is modest about this: 

"I loved working with Alice on the #NoNonsenseSkills campaign and combining our skills. 

"There is always such a great vibe in a skills battle. It's amazing to be able to perform and show our talents to the world."

Juiceburst's #NoNonsenseSkills campaign invites kids across the UK to showcase their skills by entering the competition on their social media channels. 

The goal is to get kids focussing on activities that bring them happiness and excitement, and the confidence to share their abilities.
