Out of the Ordinary: The Sussex Festival That’s Moon Attuned & All About The Vibe

The Out Of The Ordinary Festival – the green and family friendly gathering that celebrates the changing seasons – returns once more to East Sussex this September, for a chill out that looks likely to sell out.

Out Of The Ordinary will once more be offering its remarkable vibe at Knockhatch Adventure Park, near Hailsham, from September 17th to 19th, and will feature an out of this world line-up of bands, speakers and performers all powered by the sun (literally), moon and stars.

Festival director Stuart Mason said: "We founded OOTO, as it"s known to devotees, in 2007 as an alternative to the ever-more bloated, corporate festival scene.

"OOTO isn't just focused on music: it exists for people of all ages and outlooks to gather and celebrate nature and the changing seasons in many ways. Talks, workshops and just being are vital to the OOTO mix. Though that"s not to say the music isn"t brilliant."

The festival site is divided into seven arenas, named after the seven chakras, which offer experiences as diverse as knowledge, healing, circus skills, metamorphosis and music.

At the centre is the peace circle which acts as a celestial observatory, sacred space and a place for prayer or quiet reflection.

Music belongs in the arena named after the Throat chakra, where the solar-powered OOTOpia Music Arena features many dozens of live bands, solo artists and DJs including Dr Alex Patterson, Seize the Day, Nucleus Roots and Sussex's own Andy Barlow.

Talks and workshops present dozens of inspirational speakers under the title Third Eye Knowledge, which this year is hosted by Avalon Rising.

Mason continues: "Last year we were lucky enough to coincide with the autumn equinox, where our central stone circle became a giant celestial observatory and a place for equinox celebration. This year the festival is moon attuned.

"Once again, we have a wonderful healing area where you can try out different complementary therapies at reasonable prices, and throughout the site there are workshops on esoteric topics from healing, yoga and chi gung to circus, juggling and fire performance skills.

"There's also a green market, family and children's activities and a dedicated disabled area (GAMA - Green Access Mobility Area), not to mention plenty of out of the ordinary surprises."

The event is environmentally fully responsible: stages and tents are powered by solar power, wind power and vegetable oil, and the guests are provided with clean eco compost toilets, not to mention a sauna and showers.

As OOTO is truly family friendly, admission is free for children under 7 and only £10 for 7-16 year olds. Adult 3 day passes are just £65 in advance but increase £80 on the day. Tickets are available at www.outoftheordinaryfestival.com
