Man Set To Run 100km In South Coast Challenge For Alzheimer's Society

A 23-year-old man will be donning his running shoes to tackle a 100km run, in a bid to raise more than £425 for Alzheimer's Society. Max Cross will be taking on the South Coast Challenge from Eastbourne to Hove, over two days, on 25 and 26 August 2018.

Max, from St Albans, has a strong personal link to the cause, and is also currently working as a pharmacist.

Through his work he has met lots of different patients, including people who have dementia. It's because of this he decided to support Alzheimer's Society.

Max said: "I decided to take part in this challenge for Alzheimer"s Society because I have had personal experience of Alzheimer's disease, when I lost a grandmother a few years ago.

"I also witnessed the repercussions it can have on the family of the affected, specifically seeing the impact on my grandfather. My partner"s grandmother has also recently been diagnosed with Alzheimer's.

"Working on the wards at the Royal Berkshire hospital, I also see the impact of Alzheimer's disease on numerous patients and their families. Considering my personal, as well as my professional experience, it is an area I feel strongly about.

"It would be great to have loads of people joining me to take part in this challenge. Having people around you to spur you on makes all the difference."

The two-day challenge covers a 100km route that sets out from Eastbourne continuing up the infamous Beachy Head, on through the Seven Sisters Country Park and along the South Downs Way. The finish line lies in the historic Arundel.

Alzheimer's Society is the UK's leading dementia charity. It provides information and support, improves care, funds research, and creates lasting change for people affected by dementia.

Chloe Beevers, Events Fundraising Coordinator at Alzheimer's Society, added:

"Walk, jog or run over the famous Seven Sisters, join the meandering river Cuckmere and continue along the South Downs to historic Arundel on this fabulous route showcasing the best of England's scenery.

"Your challenge will be a real test of stamina & determination. It's tough but achievable and you'll get full support all the way."
