Geisha Arts Hosts Live Art Event @ Brighton's 21st Century Warholian Factory

Brighton's Geisha Arts is set to welcome visitors for a day of live art production, as creative director Zac Walsh and installation sculptor and street artist Jo Peel each undertake exciting new projects within the uncompromising and eclectic environment of the Geisha Arts cafe/bar and gallery, at the centre of Brighton's thriving contemporary arts community.

It is an event typical of the dynamic, artist-led spirit that Walsh himself has spearheaded since forming his bold plan for Geisha Arts, after the venue reopened in April.

He envisions the gallery as a hub for raw and cutting edge artistic endeavour of all kinds, from painters, sculptors and street artists to filmmakers, musicians and poets – a 21st Century Warholian factory in Britain"s most notorious seaside hotbed of creativity.

Walsh, a graduate of London"s esteemed Royal College of Art, has been touted for some time throughout the art press as one of the leading lights of Britain"s contemporary underground art scene.

He draws upon a range of classical influences to imbue his subjects with a rich allegory and symbolism, creating pristine representational figures within striking, abstract compositions of space and geometrical blocks of colour - drawing comparisons to Lucian Freud, among others.

Leon Billing of the famous London Art Blog has described Walsh"s recent work as 'beguiling' and 'beautiful', with 'a masterful feel for portraiture, expressions, gestures, poise and pose of the human physiology.'

It is this eye for expressive composition that has turned Geisha Arts into the vivid, gritty space that it is today - playing host to works by a wide variety of celebrated artists, including Matt Small, Jamie Reid, Goldie, Rob Sample and many more - all brought together by Walsh"s vision of a place to interact, appreciate and discuss art beyond the rarefied confines of an alienating gallery system. And with this showcase of live art on 1st September comes an opportunity for that vision to be shared by all.

Geisha Arts is situated @ 75 - 79 East Street, Brighton BN1 1NF. See www.geishaarts.com for more details.
