Brighton Diners Can Play Their Part In Funding Aqua Boxes For Pakistan
The Rotary Club of Brighton & Hove Breakfast and Zamdani Indian Restaurant in Hove, have teamed up to provide money to send Aqua Boxes to Pakistan.
Lack of fresh water is certain to cause many more deaths through the spread of diseases such as Cholera, Aqua Boxes are a means of providing drinking water locally to families.
The 2010 Pakistan floods began in July after heavy monsoon rains affected the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Sindh, lower Punjab as well as parts of Balochistan.
It is estimated that two thousand people along with close to a million homes have perished so far.
The United Nations estimates over 20 million people are suffering and homeless with over 160,000 square kilometres affected as a result of the flooding..
Jane Cocking, Oxfam's Humanitarian Director said:
"People in the flood's wake were already desperately poor and what little possessions they had have been washed away. The extent of this crisis is only slowly emerging. The more villages that are reached the grimmer the picture becomes.
There is a desperate need for temporary shelter, clean drinking water and toilets to avert a public health catastrophe. People also need medical care and basic food items. We are looking at a sizable aid package that will require a great deal of public support."
In addition to all the other damages the floods have caused, floodwaters have destroyed much of the healthcare-infrastructure in the worst-affected areas, leaving inhabitants especially vulnerable to water-borne disease.
There is also an absence of law and order, mainly in Sindh. Looters have been taking advantage of the floods by ransacking abandoned homes using boats.
The Rotary Club of Brighton & Hove Breakfast and Zamdani Indian Restaurant offer, for one day only (Wednesday 8th September) lunch and dinner where 50% of the profit on food sales on the day will buy Aqua Boxes for the victims of the floods in Pakistan.
So, there's no need to send money! All you have to do is partake in a fantastic Indian buffet meal from Zamdani, and eat as much as you can for £20! They advise that you book in advance or why not have a take away meal from the standard menu, although you will have to collect it yourself.
