Komcast: Komedia’s Inaugural Podcast Gets The Al Murray Seal Of Approval
Komedia has this month launched Komcast, its brand new podcast featuring interviews and special guest performances by comedians and musicians performing at the award winning Brighton venue.
To kick off, Komcast focuses on headline act Al Murray, as he unveils his brand spanking new show, Compete for the Meat.
As well as talking about the perils of a defrosting frozen chicken and his favourite sausages, Al tells us what he'd have done if The Pub Landlord was not popular.
Murray's early days on the comedy circuit were spent touring with the likes of Harry Hill, Jim Tavaré and Frank Skinner.
In 1999 he won the Perrier Award at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, with an act that involved sound-effect impressions, including of guns, animals and a particularly impressive car boot; a combination that prompted an equal number of plaudits for vocal skill and complaints of tastelessness.
His chat show Al Murray's Happy Hour began airing in early 2007, the show won a British Comedy Award and was nominated for a National Television Award.
"It goes without saying ... the trouble with telly these days is that the viewer is not credited with enough intelligence and the fact I'm back on is proof they know what's good for them" .. said Murray, who was the headliner on a 2009 episode of Michael McIntyre's Comedy Roadshow, which was filmed in Brighton.
Krater Comedy Club compere and local legend Stephen Grant, also delves into his 11 years of backstage stories to tell us about stroppy comedians and how he curates the award winning series.
Comedy goers, music fans and general Brighton enthusiasts are able to download the monthly audio treat from Komedia website home page.
You'll get a glimpse of what happens backstage and find out what acts feel about performing in Brighton. The podcast will also be looking for Krater regulars and guilty pleasures punters to contribute and give us their input.
